Alisha Taweel (B. 1997) is an Atlanta based painter who creates minimal and organic paintings, drawing inspiration from the natural world.
Originally from Canada and raised in Nashville, Alisha discovered her artistic voice while studying glassblowing at Tyler School of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia. Though trained in 3D art, Alisha returned to her roots in painting.
Alisha's artistic approach is deeply influenced by the challenges she encountered while working with glass. Glassblowing, with its emphasis on control, sparked a fascination with the unexpected and the beauty found in letting go. This concept of surrendering control translates into her paintings, where she utilizes a phenomenological approach to capture the essence of materials and their interactions.
Living with ADHD, Alisha utilizes limitations as a coping tool as well as creative tool. By working with a single color of paint and paper, she coaxes complexity from simplicity, revealing the hidden potential within restrictions. This exploration of limitations allows her to find a sense of focus and unlock a world of creative possibilities.
